Lazio Eyes Israeli Defender Sagi Lamkin After Breakthrough Season at Twente

Israeli defender Sagi Lamkin is attracting interest from Italian Serie A club Lazio following his impressive first season at Dutch side Twente. Lamkin, who joined Twente in the summer of 2023 from Shakhtar Donetsk after a loan spell at Maccabi Tel Aviv, has become a key player in Twente's defense, making 29 appearances and providing one assist last season.

According to Italian media outlet Sport Mediaset, Lazio's sporting director Angelo Fabiani is closely monitoring Lamkin as the club considers reinforcing its defense amid uncertainty over Alessio Romagnoli's future. Romagnoli remains at Lazio's training ground after stalled negotiations for a move to Al Sadd, prompting Lazio to explore defensive options, including Lamkin.

Lazio recently signed Danilo D'Ambrosio on a free transfer and also has Oliver Probstgor in defense, but with several defenders over 30, the club aims to rejuvenate its backline with younger talent. Lamkin's contract with Twente runs until 2028, with an option for an additional year, so Lazio would need to negotiate a transfer fee if they pursue the Israeli defender.

Lamkin's early period at Twente was challenging, as he was substituted at halftime in his debut and sidelined for months under coach Joseph Oosting. However, after John van den Brom took over, Lamkin secured a regular starting role and became a defensive mainstay. Lazio's interest marks a potential major step forward in Lamkin's career as he looks to establish himself in a top European league.
