ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan Removed Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

On May 24, 2024, member states of the International Criminal Court (ICC) confirmed the dismissal of Prosecutor Karim Khan following disciplinary proceedings related to sexual harassment allegations against him. The decision was ratified in a vote held at the United Nations. Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, commented on the dismissal, accusing Khan of attempting to deflect attention from the serious sexual misconduct accusations by initiating a political campaign against Israel and issuing arrest warrants. Danon stated, "Karim Khan thought that by launching a political witch hunt against Israel and issuing arrest warrants, the world would ignore the serious sexual offense allegations against him - he was wrong." He further criticized Khan for using Israel as a "human shield" to cover his personal scandal, emphasizing that the world rejected this cynicism and that those who exploit anti-Israel campaigns to evade accountability will lose global trust. Danon also referenced another ICC figure, Zouhrán Mahmúdí, implying that similar tactics would not succeed in his case either.
