ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan Faces Sexual Harassment Allegations Amid Israel War Crimes Probe
Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, is facing serious sexual harassment allegations from an ICC employee who worked closely with him. Known only as Sarah, she revealed in an interview with CNN that the harassment spanned over a year and escalated from emotional to physical misconduct. These incidents reportedly occurred in Khan's official office, his home, and during work trips. Sarah described feeling humiliated and powerless due to the power imbalance and fear of retaliation.
This revelation comes amid a significant crisis at the ICC, where an internal executive office report recommends Khan's removal from his position. The investigation found substantial evidence of improper sexual relations exploiting his authority, stating that any sexual contact with a subordinate could never be appropriate. Khan had previously sought arrest warrants against Israeli officials including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, accusing them of war crimes. However, the tables have turned as Khan himself now faces grave accusations.
Khan and his legal team strongly deny the allegations, claiming the investigation was prolonged and complicated, and assert that the accusations are attempts to tarnish his reputation due to his work against senior Israeli figures. The ICC's 125 member states are scheduled to vote on July 24 on whether to accept the executive office's recommendation to dismiss Khan based on these findings.
