Israeli Police Arrest Two for Dangerous Fireworks in East Jerusalem Crackdown

Israeli police and Border Police launched an extensive enforcement operation early Friday morning in East Jerusalem and nearby villages to prevent public disturbances and the use of dangerous fireworks. The operation focused on areas where celebrations were expected following the release of Palestinian Authority matriculation exam results. Authorities prepared in advance to prevent the festivities from escalating into violence and the use of hazardous pyrotechnics.

During the operation, officers confronted rioters who fired fireworks, employing operational measures including gas projectiles to restore public order. Enforcement also targeted vehicles identified using pyrotechnic devices. Police acted decisively against the offenders while ensuring public and security forces’ safety. Two suspects, aged 24 and 17 and residents of East Jerusalem, were arrested on suspicion of possession and use of fireworks. The seized items were taken for further investigation.

The Israeli police emphasized they will not tolerate such dangerous incidents, warning that anyone turning celebrations into life-threatening events through shooting, fireworks, or disorder will face a firm and uncompromising response.
