Jerusalem Man Charged for Firing Fireworks at Border Police, Injuring Commander

The Jerusalem District Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment declaration on Sunday against a 20-year-old resident of Silwan, accused of firing a cluster of fireworks directly at Border Police officers during a routine patrol in East Jerusalem. The incident occurred earlier this month when the unit was conducting a patrol in Silwan. The commander of the force was struck in the neck by a firework, causing a fire that was later extinguished by firefighters. The injured officer was evacuated for medical treatment. Following the attack, investigators from the Jerusalem District's special units launched a comprehensive investigation, including intelligence gathering, forensic analysis, and reviewing footage from the scene. Police located the fireworks cluster allegedly used in the attack. The suspect faces multiple serious charges, including assaulting a police officer and unlawful use of a firearm in a manner endangering life. His detention was extended until the end of the week pending formal indictment and a request for continued detention throughout the legal proceedings.
