Jerusalem Resident Arrested on Suspicion of Setting Fire to Motorcycle During Bar Ilan Protest

Police in the Jerusalem District and Border Police officers arrested a suspect, a resident of the city, yesterday, Tuesday, on suspicion of setting fire to a security company motorcycle along the light rail route during a violent disturbance that took place about two weeks ago on Bar Ilan Street.

During the protest, which was held against the arrest of yeshiva students who had evaded enlistment, demonstrators blocked vehicles and some also behaved violently toward Haredi drivers, hurling harsh insults at a driver and damaging vehicles. The motorcycle arson, photo: Police spokesperson.

The arrest came after the suspect was identified and after intensive investigative activity carried out following the arson. The suspect was brought this morning before the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, which accepted the police request and ordered that his detention be extended until next Monday.

The police said, "This arrest, which joins a series of arrests of rioters in recent days, sends a message to criminals who think they can hide within a crowd and commit criminal offenses." It was also stated that "the police are constantly investigating, analyzing and identifying the criminals, whom we will arrest at the moment and place they least expect, in order to bring them to justice."
