Former Israeli National Security Chief Warns of Imminent War Amid US-Iran Tensions

Retired Colonel Uzi Dayan, former head of Israel's National Security Council, criticized the US strategy toward Iran during a Friday interview on Channel 14's "Israel Morning" program. He argued that American attacks on Iran are insufficient as long as Washington keeps the door open for negotiations. Dayan said the US approach, influenced by former President Donald Trump, prefers a flawed agreement over a just war, contrasting with Israel's focus on justice, morality, and existential necessity.

Dayan emphasized that the problem is not the number of US strikes but their nature and messaging, which suggest a willingness to return to talks despite ongoing attacks. He called for a shift to a more aggressive US policy aimed at decisively defeating the Iranian regime, proposing targeting Iran's transportation infrastructure, fuel stations, airports, and seaports to cripple the regime.

Regarding Israel's role, Dayan highlighted its importance in intelligence and striking regime targets, especially focusing on Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, which threaten Israel's security. He warned that the situation could escalate rapidly, with ballistic missile attacks potentially placing Israel in a state of war within hours.

Dayan assessed that while Iran is not fully in control, it is primarily focused on regime survival. He noted Israel's regional advantage due to ongoing conflicts with Iran's proxies like Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. Despite the threats, he concluded that Israel's position has improved following recent military achievements, particularly in securing its borders.
