Iran Rapidly Restores Missile Bases and Production Facilities Damaged by Israeli and US Strikes

According to a Wall Street Journal report on Thursday, Iran has swiftly rebuilt missile bases and production infrastructure damaged during recent airstrikes by Israel and the United States. These facilities, including hidden missile bases deep within mountains, bridges, ports, and manufacturing sites, were assessed through satellite imagery and intelligence from Israeli and Western sources. The pace of reconstruction has exceeded expectations, raising concerns among some Israeli officials about the ongoing effectiveness of their targeting strategy.

Satellite images from Planet Labs in March showed damage to tunnel entrances and access roads near Kangavar in western Iran, caused by airstrikes aimed at blocking access to an Iranian missile base. Within weeks, Airbus imagery revealed a newly paved road leading to freshly dug tunnel entrances. In another instance, an Israeli military source noted that Iran repaired a bridge targeted by three Israeli bombs within days, surprising Israeli officials and prompting doubts about target selection.

Ran Kochav, former commander of Israel's air defense and missile systems, commented that Iran's rapid recovery aligns with its demonstrated ability to restore infrastructure and missile stockpiles following the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran in June last year, prior to the renewed conflict in February. He stated, "They have replenished their supplies and possess very impressive industrial and restoration capabilities." This ongoing resilience helps explain Iran's ability to withstand sustained aerial campaigns, which have included over 20,000 strikes at the peak of the conflict, particularly along the Iranian coastline near the Strait of Hormuz.
