Ben Gurion Airport Sees Flight Booking Slowdown Amid Rising War Threats

Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) continues to operate normally with no flight cancellations, handling a record 95,000 passengers on July 23, 2026, despite renewed concerns over potential Israeli involvement in conflict with Iran. However, a slight slowdown in new summer flight bookings has been observed, attributed to the combination of the traditional low-demand period around Tisha B'Av and the current security uncertainty.

Shirly Cohen Orkabi, Vice President of Eshet Tours, noted that many customers are hesitant and prefer to wait until the security situation clarifies before booking. Conversely, Nir Mazor, Vice President of Kesher Aviation, stated that public reaction is more measured than in previous years due to acclimatization to such tensions, and he recommends booking flights with cancellation options to maintain flexibility.

Travel experts advise booking through Israeli travel agencies or airlines to ensure greater flexibility in emergencies. Lawyer Asher Rotbaum emphasized prioritizing cancellation policies over price during tense security periods. Additional services allowing last-minute cancellations, often for an extra fee, are recommended to secure refunds if plans change.

Travel insurance should be expanded to cover cancellations and compensation flexibility. Hotel bookings, typically separate from flight packages, should also allow cancellations close to arrival dates. While hotels may sometimes waive cancellation fees due to security concerns, travelers are advised to pay extra for refundable options to avoid risks.

Currently, all flights at Ben Gurion Airport proceed as usual, but travelers are urged to take precautions when booking amid the ongoing regional tensions.
