Israeli Woman Discovers Husband Is Illegal Gaza Resident After Traffic Violation

An Israeli woman from northern Israel lived with and married a man she believed to be an Israeli from Rahat for over a year, even giving birth to their first child together. However, following a traffic violation involving tinted car windows, police discovered that her husband, Saher Barik, 29, is actually an illegal resident from Gaza who had been living in Israel unlawfully for many years. Barik had been impersonating an Israeli citizen from Rahat and had deceived the woman into marriage.

The incident came to light when police in Migdal HaEmek stopped Barik for driving without a license and with illegally tinted windows. Upon investigation, Barik admitted his true identity as a Gaza resident. Police then questioned the woman, who was shocked to learn she had been married to an illegal Gaza resident for over a year. During a search of their home, officers found a wedding photo with the name of the Israeli identity Barik had used.

The woman’s family was also stunned by the revelation, concerned about the legal and personal risks she faced. In police interviews, the woman expressed disbelief and distress over the deception. Barik faces multiple charges including illegal entry and residence in Israel, driving without a license or insurance, impersonation, obstructing police, and illegal window tinting.

Barik’s public defender stated that he is a law-abiding individual who entered Israel before October 7 and could not return to Gaza. The case is set to be heard at the Nazareth Magistrate’s Court. Police emphasized the seriousness of the case and the emotional impact on the woman who unknowingly lived with an illegal Gaza resident for over a year.
