Israeli Authorities Rescue 22 Animals From Neglected Apartment in Kiryat Ata

Authorities from Israel's Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security rescued 22 animals of seven species from a private apartment in Kiryat Ata following reports of severe neglect. Inspectors from the ministry's Central Enforcement and Investigation Unit, alongside veterinarians from the Western Galilee Veterinary Office and the municipal veterinary officer, conducted the operation.

The apartment was found in a dire sanitary condition, with closed windows, no ventilation, a strong odor of urine and feces, and floors covered in animal waste. The space was cluttered with piles of clothes, old items, garbage, and both live and dead pests. The animals discovered included two dogs, four cats, nine hamsters, two dormice, two rabbits, two ducklings, and a parakeet. Many were kept in cramped, filthy cages, some without water and forced to eat old food and waste.

Due to the health risks, all animals were transferred to a protected facility operated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, where they are receiving medical care and rehabilitation. Plans are underway to find them new homes.

Moshe Aharak, head of the ministry's Central Enforcement and Investigation Unit, condemned the conditions as unacceptable and emphasized the ministry's responsibility to ensure animal welfare. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicions of animal neglect or abuse, noting that citizen reports often make the difference between continued suffering and rescue.
