Iranian FM Reveals Israel Had Precise Intelligence on Khamenei's Location During US-Israeli Strike

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi disclosed in a recent interview that Israel and the United States possessed accurate intelligence on the whereabouts of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other senior officials during a joint US-Israeli attack that killed Khamenei on the first day of the war. Araghchi described how he survived the strike by constantly moving around Tehran and changing locations frequently. He confirmed that Israel had detailed knowledge of meetings held by Iranian officials at the Ministry of Intelligence and other strategic councils, suggesting a security breach that Iran needs to address.

Araghchi recounted the attack's impact, including explosions that severely damaged the building housing Khamenei's deputy, Ali Asghar Hajazi, whose secretary was killed. Despite the destruction, Araghchi and Hajazi escaped. The minister also revealed that Iran had prepared contingency plans, dubbed "Code 110," to close the strategic Strait of Hormuz if the Supreme Leader was targeted.

He expressed skepticism about the success of earlier negotiations with the US but emphasized the necessity of diplomatic efforts to avoid blame. Araghchi stated that Iran had offered a deal on its nuclear program during talks in Geneva, but the atmosphere in Washington turned hostile. He also claimed that warnings from Iran to Turkey helped thwart a US-backed Kurdish rebellion plan aimed at infiltrating Iran.

Araghchi warned that any attack on Iran’s nuclear or oil facilities would be met with retaliation against Israeli targets and US bases in the region. He highlighted Iran’s improved missile capabilities and faster base recovery times following a 2025 Israeli bombing campaign. The minister stressed that Iran prefers diplomacy but will not hesitate to fight if the cost of avoiding war is higher than engaging in it.

The interview provides insight into Iran’s internal security concerns, regional tensions, and its stance on diplomacy versus military confrontation amid ongoing conflict with the US and Israel.
