Israeli Math Team Wins Six Medals at International Olympiad in China

The Israeli national mathematics team returned from the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad held in China with an outstanding achievement. Competing against 666 participants from 117 countries, all six Israeli team members won medals, including one gold, one silver, and four bronze. This success raised Israel's total number of science olympiad medals to 19 for the summer season.

The competition spanned two days, featuring challenging 4.5-hour exams in algebra, combinatorics, geometry, and number theory. The gold medalist was Yotam Bodnik from Rehovot (De Shalit High School), while Shahar Blumenzweig from Modiin (Atid Science High School, Lod) earned silver. Bronze medals were awarded to Yuval Yaul (Jerusalem, The Hebrew University High School), Daniel Perry-Ness (Kiryat Ono, Yitzhak Ben Zvi High School), Elad Even Shani (Herzliya, Ironi General HaRishonim), and Michael Shlomo Cohen (Jerusalem, P. Himelfarb Religious School).

The team was trained at the Weizmann Institute of Science under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and the Future Scientists Center of the Maimonides Foundation. The academic director was Dr. Shahar Carmeli, with Daniel Kaner serving as head coach, supported by a team of trainers and escorts. This achievement highlights Israel's growing prominence in international science competitions.
