Israeli Dark Comedy 'The Inspector' Premieres Despite Tragic Loss of Lead Actor

The new Israeli dark comedy series "The Inspector" premiered recently on Yes, Sting TV, and Partner TV, overcoming a tragic setback when lead actor Alon Abutbul passed away the day before filming began. The series follows Shagit (played by Fisher), a 33-year-old security inspector at Ben Gurion Airport, who is cynical and distrustful of people. She lives with her narcissistic, failed musician father (played by Tzahi Grad, replacing Abutbul) and has a strained relationship with her divorced mother, Rucha (Sarit Vino-Elad). Shagit's life is marked by low self-esteem and familial dysfunction, themes explored through her attendance at a self-expression workshop and interactions with her friend Naomi (Alona Sa'ar).

"The Inspector" is characterized by its dry, bitter humor and introspective tone, drawing comparisons to the works of Larry David, Woody Allen, and Pamela Adlon. The narrative focuses on Shagit's emotional journey rather than plot-driven events, with a notable subplot involving her father joining a reunion tour of the Israeli rock band Tislam, which pushes her to strengthen ties with her mother and consider a healthier paternal figure in Ofer (Uri Albi), her airport team leader.
