Windows 11 Introduces New Shortcut to Instantly Copy Text from Any Screen

Microsoft has launched a new Windows 11 feature that allows users to quickly extract editable text directly from any on-screen content, including videos, locked PDFs, and presentations. Activated by pressing Win+Shift+T, this tool opens the built-in "Text Actions" utility within the Snipping Tool, enabling users to draw a rectangle around the desired text. The system then uses optical character recognition (OCR) to capture and copy the text instantly without the need for manual typing or external apps.

Unlike older methods requiring screenshots to be uploaded or third-party software, this feature operates locally and free of charge. It handles complex fonts and backgrounds effectively and even removes unnecessary line breaks before copying. The extracted text is plain, so when pasted into Word or email, it adopts the destination's formatting automatically.

This shortcut is especially useful for copying text that appears on screen but cannot be selected normally, such as scanned PDFs, receipt images, lecture slides, or WhatsApp messages. It saves time and effort by eliminating the need to retype passwords, license numbers, or error messages. Users should note that the selection is rectangular, so any unwanted characters or icons captured can be easily deleted after pasting.

Windows encourages users to utilize this tool whenever they encounter "locked" text on their screens, making tedious manual transcription a thing of the past.
