Israel Prepares for Potential Iran Conflict, Emphasizes Coordinated Aggressive Action with US

A recent meeting of Israel's security cabinet focused on Iran and the country's preparedness for a possible military confrontation. Various scenarios are under consideration, including full Israeli involvement, coordinated operations with the United States, a US-only strike, or Israeli entry following Iranian attacks on Israeli territory. Israeli officials, including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, stressed that Israel should avoid partial engagement and only act within a coordinated, aggressive framework alongside the US. A senior military officer noted that while the IDF is ready to resume fighting Iran, the current preference appears to be for the US to lead, with Israel maintaining a more cautious stance.

Smotrich clarified that Israel currently has no interest in joining the conflict, viewing the ongoing limited confrontation between Iran and the US as the most favorable situation. He emphasized Israel's ultimate goal is to destabilize and overthrow the Iranian regime, which openly threatens Israel's existence. Smotrich advocated for economic measures to weaken Iran rather than direct military escalation, but confirmed that Israel remains prepared for any scenario, including a strong retaliatory response if Iran fires on Israeli territory.

Separately, US President Donald Trump met with Lebanese President Michel Aoun in Washington, marking their first meeting in 17 years. The discussion coincided with the deployment of Lebanese forces in southern Lebanon following the Israeli military's withdrawal. Trump praised Lebanon's people and highlighted the Abraham Accords as a significant success, predicting more countries would join soon. He also addressed Hezbollah, expressing willingness to negotiate with all parties and signaling efforts to improve Lebanon's global standing.

Regarding Iran, Trump stated that Iran desires talks but must engage seriously. He claimed that even if the US withdrew now, Iran would need 20 to 25 years to rebuild its capabilities. Trump also mentioned plans to strike the new nuclear site at Mount Machoukh and suggested that Syria might act against Hezbollah, noting good relations with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his past opposition to Hezbollah.
