Thousands Expected at Western Wall for Tisha B'Av Mourning and Unity Events

The Western Wall Heritage Foundation has completed preparations for the arrival of thousands of worshippers at the Western Wall during the Tisha B'Av fast, the national day of mourning commemorating the destruction of the First and Second Temples. From the evening before Tisha B'Av through late Thursday night, visitors from across Israel will gather at the Western Wall plaza to recite the Book of Lamentations and kinnot (dirges) in various traditions, marking the historical and spiritual connection of the Jewish people to Jerusalem.

On the night of Tisha B'Av, the Foundation will hold a special guided tour called "In Jerusalem You Shall Be Comforted" for bereaved families who lost loved ones defending Jerusalem and the State of Israel. This tour will take place at sites of destruction near the Western Wall, linking the national tragedy of the Temple's destruction with personal stories of heroism and loss.

Ahead of the fast's conclusion on Thursday at 7 p.m., thousands will participate in singing and unity circles at the Western Wall plaza. This annual event symbolizes the transition from mourning to consolation and will be broadcast live by the Western Wall Heritage Foundation to dozens of locations across Israel and worldwide.
