Thousands Gather at Western Wall for Tisha B'Av Mourning and Lamentations

On the evening of Tisha B'Av, the Jewish day of mourning commemorating the destruction of the Temples, tens of thousands of people gathered at the Western Wall plaza in Jerusalem. Participants engaged in the traditional reading of the Book of Lamentations and recitation of kinnot (dirges) throughout the night. The crowd included prominent public figures such as former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Economy Minister Nir Barkat, and Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion.

The influx of worshippers and visitors to the Western Wall is expected to continue through the night and into the following day, with estimates suggesting that tens of thousands more will arrive by the end of the fast. The event is organized by the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, which shared multiple images documenting the large turnout. Tisha B'Av is observed as a national and religious day of mourning for the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem.
