Thousands Gather with Sephardic Torah Sages to Mourn Tisha B'Av Destruction

On the night and day of Tisha B'Av, thousands of Jewish worshippers assembled in study halls and yeshivas to mourn the destruction of the Holy Temple and the exile of the Divine Presence. The gatherings featured leading Sephardic Torah sages and rabbis from Eastern communities, who recited kinnot (lamentations) and the Book of Lamentations (Eicha).

Among the prominent figures were Rabbi Shlomo Machpud, member of the Council of Torah Sages and chief rabbi of Yemenite Jewry, who led the recitations. Rabbi Yehuda Cohen, head of the Yekirei Yerushalayim yeshiva and also a Council member, delivered eulogies and words of mourning to students after the kinnot. Rabbi Yitzchak Razavi, head of Peulat Tzadik institutions, and the Hasidic Kabbalist Rabbi Shlomo Buso also participated.

Additional footage showed Rabbi Chanoch Cohen, head of Be'er HaTalmud yeshivas, and Rabbi Yitzchak Levi, chief rabbi of the city of Nesher, delivering special Tisha B'Av sermons and calls for spiritual awakening at the Chazon Ovadia study hall in Nesher. The events reflected a communal effort to express grief and inspire reflection on the Temple's destruction and Jewish exile.

The mourning ceremonies were widely documented, emphasizing the unity of Sephardic and Eastern Jewish communities in commemorating this solemn day.
