Experts Warn Iran’s New Deep Nuclear Site May Evade US Bunker-Busting Bombs

Iran has reportedly moved thousands of centrifuges deep into the Makuh mountain near Natanz, according to a Wall Street Journal report. This new enrichment site is said to be constructed at such depth that it could be beyond the reach of US bunker-busting bombs. Former Israeli defense official Avner Wilan described the report as "very troubling," indicating Iran’s continued advancement of its nuclear capabilities. He warned that Iran might enrich uranium to military-grade levels that would be difficult to halt without a ground operation. Wilan noted that Tehran is pushing forward with its nuclear program despite the issue being sidelined in the international agenda. Regarding possible responses, Wilan suggested both a ground operation and diplomatic efforts, but stressed that Iran is not yet cornered, making the situation complex.

Geopolitical expert Yehonatan Ediri commented on the potential for renewed conflict with Iran, cautioning against interpreting the absence of direct Israeli strikes as deterrence. He said Iran could achieve its goals without attacking Israel at this stage. Ediri also predicted that any future military confrontation would differ from past conflicts, being more intense, focused, and shorter in duration.
