IDF Launches 'Safe Zone' Pilot in Southern Lebanon with US and Lebanese Armies

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have officially commenced a pilot program called 'Safe Zone' in southern Lebanon, in coordination with the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Lebanese Army. This initiative follows directives from the Israeli political leadership and aims to restructure military deployments in three pilot villages in southern Lebanon.

The program's primary goal is to disarm Hezbollah of its illegal weapons while ensuring the Lebanese Army assumes full security responsibility in the designated areas. The IDF emphasized that the redeployment will maintain strict protection for Israeli forces, including the right to self-defense and the ability to neutralize immediate threats.

This pilot represents a significant test of Lebanese sovereignty, as the Lebanese Army will be the sole authorized armed presence in the pilot zones. The United States will lead a rigorous monitoring mechanism to oversee compliance with the agreement. The IDF also stated it will respond decisively to any violations by Hezbollah and maintain direct communication with the American coordination cell.

Israel will continue to operate in the security zone as needed to protect northern Israeli communities, preserving full freedom of action to counter threats. The pilot program reflects a trilateral effort to stabilize the border region and reduce Hezbollah's military capabilities.
