Nearly 40% of Israelis Running Out of Mobile Data Abroad Due to Last-Minute Purchases

New data from Israeli eSIM provider VOYE Global reveals that almost 40% of Israelis traveling abroad need to upgrade their mobile data packages during their trips because their initial plans run out. This rate is about 40% higher than the global average. The study, released ahead of summer 2026, shows that Israelis tend to purchase their data packages very late, on average just 72 hours before departure, compared to Europeans who buy about a week in advance.

The demand for eSIM packages has surged by over 50% compared to last year, with a 35% increase in global packages that work across multiple countries and a 25% rise in annual package purchases. Israelis are also extending their trips, with the average stay abroad now around one week, leading to higher daily data consumption. On average, Israeli travelers use about 500 megabytes of data daily, but in destinations like Japan and Thailand, usage jumps to 700-750 megabytes due to navigation, public transport apps, translation services, and ride-hailing.

Popular destinations for data package purchases this summer include Greece, Cyprus, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Thailand, and Japan. Additionally, Georgia is emerging as a sought-after summer destination among Israelis. The findings highlight the growing dependence of Israeli travelers on continuous internet access for navigation, communication, payments, and social media, making data packages an essential part of travel preparations despite often being bought just days before flying.
