Vizhnitz Rebbe Personally Signs Grandson’s Talmud Test Note in Ashdod
Every Sunday, teachers at Talmud Torah schools receive test notes from parents and grandparents confirming their children’s studies. However, a teacher at the 'Tzemach Tzadik' Talmud Torah of the Vizhnitz Hasidic community in Ashdod was surprised this Sunday morning when the test note brought by a student bore the holy signature of the Vizhnitz Rebbe himself.
The student, Mordechai Hager, is the son of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hager and grandson of Rabbi Yitzchak Yeshaya Hager, making him the great-grandson of the Vizhnitz Rebbe. Over the recent Shabbat Chazon, the Rebbe was in the Vizhnitz neighborhood of Bnei Brak, where thousands of Hasidim gathered for prayers and festive meals. Mordechai spent the Shabbat with his family near the Rebbe and was blessed by him at the conclusion of Shabbat.
Taking advantage of the moment, the young boy presented his completed study of Tractate Berachot to his great-grandfather. The Rebbe, pleased with his grandson’s mastery of the material, personally examined him and then signed the test note. Mordechai brought this signed note to his Talmud Torah teacher in Ashdod on Sunday morning, creating a memorable and moving moment for the teacher and community.
This rare gesture highlights the Rebbe’s personal involvement in his family’s religious education and the deep reverence within the Vizhnitz Hasidic community for Torah study and tradition.
