IDF Southern Command Intensifies Targeted Strikes on Hamas in Gaza Strip

The IDF Southern Command, led by Major General Yaniv Asor, has intensified its campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip as part of Operation "Roaring Lion." Since the operation began, the Southern Command's Fire Center, with assistance from the Shin Bet, Military Intelligence Directorate, and naval intelligence, has conducted approximately 300 targeted strikes, eliminating over 250 militants. In the past month alone, since June 15, around 60 militants have been killed, including members of Hamas's elite naval commando unit, considered highly secretive by Hamas leadership.

These figures, presented to the IDF General Staff, reflect a consistent policy aimed at dismantling those responsible for the October 7 massacre. The Southern Command's operational approach focuses on thwarting Hamas's efforts to rebuild governance and military capabilities in Gaza, including preventing arms smuggling and intelligence gathering on IDF forces near the "yellow line."

Command officers emphasize that any attempt by Hamas to provoke clashes or prepare for terrorist activities is met with swift and lethal responses from ground, air, and naval forces. Alongside targeted killings and threat neutralization, the IDF is conducting an intensive campaign against Hamas's underground terror infrastructure, which the group is trying to restore.

Additionally, operational plans are being refreshed and refined for a potential return to intense combat. According to Southern Command officers, full operational freedom is maintained across Gaza in line with political directives, alongside ongoing humanitarian activities.
