US Military Boosts Fighter Jets and Tankers in Middle East Amid Iran Tensions

The United States is reinforcing its military presence in the Middle East by deploying additional F16 and F35 fighter jets, alongside numerous aerial refueling tankers. These aircraft are being sent from European bases, with F16s coming from Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany and F35s from RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom. Many of these jets had recently returned to Europe but are now redeployed to the region amid escalating tensions with Iran.

The increased deployment includes dozens of tanker aircraft expected to be stationed at Israeli Air Force bases, although they will not be added to the fleet at Ben Gurion Airport. This buildup is part of a broader US strategy to prepare for a potential expansion of military operations against Iran, following recent attacks near the Strait of Hormuz. The Trump administration has informed Israel of the incoming tankers as part of this strategic reinforcement.

US Central Command currently has approximately 50,000 troops in the region involved in operations related to Iran. Despite some aircraft, such as B-52 bombers, F22s, F15s, and A10 attack planes, being rotated back to the US, many remain deployed in the Middle East. The 480th Fighter Squadron, specializing in neutralizing enemy air defenses, was recently redeployed to the area shortly after returning to Germany.

General Kenneth S. Wilsbach, head of the US Air Force, confirmed ongoing operations but declined to disclose specific tactics or locations. He emphasized that air force personnel continue their missions despite being under fire and that attacks on bases have not hindered air power activities. This military buildup reflects heightened US readiness amid potential wider conflict with Iran.
