US Increases Military Readiness Amid Rising Tensions With Iran in Middle East

Following eight consecutive nights of US strikes in Iran and retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Iran on regional countries, the United States is significantly raising its military readiness for a possible escalation in the conflict. Exchanges of fire continued overnight and into Sunday morning, triggering air raid sirens in Kuwait and Bahrain. Recent indicators include US troop reinforcements in the Middle East, arrival of refueling and combat aircraft, heightened travel warnings, and operational adjustments by the US military based on lessons from the latest clashes.

A key development occurred after US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that two American soldiers were killed and one went missing in an Iranian attack in Jordan on Friday, marking the first US fatalities since hostilities resumed. Dozens more US troops were reportedly wounded in recent strikes. The US stated the latest wave of attacks in Iran was a response to the Jordan incident, but President Donald Trump may pursue further actions. The Wall Street Journal noted the fatalities happened at the Muwaffaq al-Salti base, previously targeted in March, and that Iran has adapted its missile tactics to evade US defenses by deploying highly maneuverable, fast missiles.

The Pentagon is expanding its use of drones and unmanned systems to better counter Iranian air defenses and enhance strike effectiveness. The US is also deploying refueling tankers and fighter jets, including F-16s from Germany and F-35s from the UK, to Israel. These aircraft can target Iranian radar systems controlling surface-to-air missiles. Diplomatically, the US State Department issued travel advisories urging Americans to reconsider trips to Israel and other Middle Eastern countries due to the risk of sudden escalation and disruptions.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino posted footage of a B-2 bomber, which previously participated in "Operation Shout of the Tiger" targeting underground ballistic missile sites in Iran. Despite these signs, Israeli security officials do not yet view another conflict as inevitable or necessarily involving Israel directly. Iran is believed to avoid opening a direct front against Israel after recent setbacks. However, Israeli and US officials are closely monitoring the situation, considering scenarios where Israel might be drawn in, especially if Iran retaliates against Israeli actions in Lebanon or elsewhere.

Currently, the US prefers to conduct operations independently to limit conflict expansion and avoid framing the fighting as a joint US-Israel war, though military coordination remains intense. This stance could change if US commanders decide Israeli capabilities are essential for mission success. Israeli defense assessments emphasize preparedness for multiple contingencies, with the situation remaining fluid and subject to rapid change based on US decisions, intelligence updates, or unexpected Iranian moves.
