US Increases Military Deployment in Israel Amid Rising Iran Tensions

The United States is significantly ramping up its military presence in the Middle East amid escalating tensions with Iran, with dozens of American fighter jets expected to land at bases in Israel. According to reports from Kan News on Sunday, a squadron of F-16 fighter jets recently arrived in Jordan, and additional F-16 and F-35 aircraft are scheduled to be deployed to various bases across the region, including Israel, as part of a broad American buildup.

In parallel, the US administration has informed Israel of plans to send more aerial refueling tankers to the region to support potential strikes against Iran. Some of these tankers have already landed at Ovda Airbase in southern Israel after arriving from Qatar, with more expected at other Israeli airbases. This deployment is part of President Donald Trump’s strategy to reinforce the US air refueling capabilities amid the ongoing military escalation.

The increased presence of US tankers at Ben Gurion Airport has caused friction, particularly with Israeli Transportation Minister Miri Regev, who has expressed concerns that the tankers’ presence could disrupt civilian flights during the busy summer travel season. Currently, 33 US tankers are parked at Ben Gurion, occupying critical space needed for commercial aircraft. Although the US has frozen plans to relocate these tankers due to the heightened security situation, Israeli security officials have stressed that security needs will override civilian considerations if the conflict with Iran intensifies, potentially leading to further disruptions at the airport.

This military buildup follows eight consecutive nights of US strikes targeting Iranian coastal surveillance, air defense systems, naval capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites. Iran has retaliated with attacks on US forces in Jordan and energy facilities in Kuwait. The escalating conflict raises fears of a broader regional war involving multiple countries.
