SpaceX Launches Smaller, More Efficient Starlink V5 Satellite Internet Kit
SpaceX has introduced Starlink V5, the latest version of its home satellite internet kit designed to provide high-speed connectivity in areas lacking wired infrastructure. The new kit features a significantly smaller and thinner antenna, weighing just 1.1 kilograms compared to the 2.9 kilograms of the previous Standard 4 model. A key improvement is its power consumption, averaging only 35 to 50 watts, nearly half that of the earlier generation, making it more suitable for use with solar systems, backup batteries, and UPS units.
The updated router supports Wi-Fi 6 and includes two 1Gbps Ethernet ports. While the maximum download speed is up to 375 Mbps, slightly lower than the previous model, actual performance depends on local network load and atmospheric conditions. Initially, the Starlink V5 kit is available in select regions of the United States. In Israel, earlier Starlink kits are currently sold with monthly subscription plans starting at 160 shekels.
