Trump Says He Canceled Planned Overnight Strikes on Iran as Deal Talks Near Final Stage
President Trump announced this evening that he had decided to cancel the strikes and bombings planned for tonight against Iran, following significant progress in diplomatic talks with the Islamic Republic.
After threatening Iran throughout the day, U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday evening that he was canceling the strikes planned for tonight in Iran. He wrote, “Based on the fact that the discussions with Iran have been brought to the highest levels of the Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States, canceled the planned strikes and bombings against Iran this evening.”
He added that “the discussions and final points have been approved, both in principle and in detail, by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt and others.”
Alongside the announcement canceling the strikes, the U.S. president stressed that pressure on Iran would not be lifted immediately. “The naval blockade will remain in full force until this deal is completed,” he said, hinting that the agreement still requires further steps from all sides involved.
At the end of his message, Trump referred to the next stage in the process and added that “the time and place of the signing will be announced soon,” but gave no further details on the expected signing date, the content of the agreement or the mechanisms it will include.
