New Safari Extension Filters Out Negative News and Spoilers for Apple Users
A new Safari browser extension called Filtre has been launched for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users to help them avoid unwanted news headlines and spoilers online. Users can create personalized keyword lists to hide or fade out headlines containing those words, with options for complete removal, reduced opacity, or grayscale display. The extension allows site-specific filters, enabling users to block spoilers for games like GTA 6 or new Christopher Nolan movies only on relevant websites.
Filtre supports fast iCloud synchronization across devices and lets users export and share their blocklists via AirDrop without requiring cloud storage. The developer, Jeffrey Quicken, who also created the popular Noir dark mode extension, assures users that the app does not collect data, storing information locally or in the user's iCloud account. However, some limitations exist: the extension does not affect Instagram feeds in the browser and may remove entire feeds on the old Reddit site.
Filtre offers a free one-week trial, after which users can subscribe monthly for $1.50, annually for $9, or purchase a lifetime license for $28. This tool aims to provide a simple way for Apple users to maintain mental peace and control over the content they see online.
