American Citizen Extradited from Israel to Face Hit-and-Run Charges in US

Maher Abd Alal, an American citizen arrested in Israel following an extradition request, was transferred today to US authorities. Abd Alal is wanted in the United States for hit-and-run offenses after allegedly striking a pedestrian with his vehicle in California in November 2017, fleeing the scene without providing assistance, which resulted in the pedestrian's death. He was detained in Israel in March this year after an appeal by the International Department of the State Attorney's Office, represented by attorney Sharon Horvitz. Abd Alal voluntarily requested to return to the US to stand trial and remained in custody until his extradition.
