WhatsApp Adds Direct Microphone Mode Control to iPhone Calls for Clearer Audio
WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature for its iOS app that integrates Apple's microphone modes directly into the call interface, allowing users to easily manage audio settings during voice or video calls. The update, version 26.27.74, introduces a "More" button on the call screen where users can select from four microphone modes: Standard, Voice Isolation, Wide Spectrum, and Auto. Voice Isolation, which filters out background noise to focus on the speaker's voice, was previously available only through the iPhone's Control Center since iOS 15 but required multiple steps to activate.
This enhancement aims to address common issues with disruptive background noises such as construction sounds, public transport commotion, or wind, which often degrade call quality. Unlike the Android version of WhatsApp, which uses an independent noise cancellation algorithm, the iOS version leverages Apple's built-in microphone technology, simplifying the user experience. Once a mode like Voice Isolation is selected, it remains active for subsequent calls, ensuring consistently clear audio.
The feature is gradually being deployed worldwide and is expected to reach all iPhone users in the coming weeks. WhatsApp continues to prioritize improving user experience by enhancing call audio quality, a critical aspect alongside text messaging. Users are advised to update their app via the App Store to access the new microphone mode shortcut.
