Tel Aviv Bus Driver Arrested for Drunk Driving After Passenger Falls and Is Injured
A 50-year-old bus driver for a public transportation company was arrested in Tel Aviv on Wednesday evening on suspicion of driving under the influence. The arrest followed an incident where a female passenger in her 70s fell and sustained minor injuries during the bus ride. Medical teams treated the passenger at the scene and transported her for further examination.
Police officers from the Yarkon traffic unit arrived at Herzog Street, where the incident occurred, and detected a strong smell of alcohol on the driver. An initial breathalyzer test indicated intoxication, leading to his arrest and a subsequent detailed breath test. The test revealed an alcohol concentration of 664 micrograms per liter of breath, which is 2.8 times above the legal limit.
The driver was taken for further investigation by traffic examiners from the Tel Aviv district. After questioning, he was released under restrictive conditions, his driving license was revoked, and he is expected to face legal proceedings. The case highlights ongoing concerns about public transportation safety and enforcement of drunk driving laws in Israel.
