Suspect Drives Stolen Car Against Traffic, Hits Police Vehicle and Causes Gas Leak Near Modi'in Illit

On Thursday morning, police arrested a suspect who stole a vehicle and drove it against traffic on Route 446 near Modi'in Illit. During the reckless drive, the suspect rammed a police car, which swerved off course and collided with a gas truck. Two police officers sustained minor injuries and were treated medically. The collision caused a significant gas leak from the truck, prompting the closure of the road from Hezmonim Crossing to Nili Square due to hazardous material concerns.

The incident began when officers from the Modi'in Illit police station in the Samaria region received reports of a driver endangering others by driving against traffic. When officers attempted to stop the suspect, he continued driving and struck their vehicle. Firefighters from the Benjamin Regional Station arrived to manage the gas leak. The police vehicle hit the rear side of the truck, leading to the substantial gas spill.

Authorities managed the scene to ensure public safety and investigate the incident further. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
