Police Chase Ends in Truck Collision Causing Gas Leak and Road Closure Near Modi'in Illit
This Thursday morning, Highway 446 was closed in both directions from Hashmonaim Crossing to Nili Square due to a gas leak from a truck involved in a traffic accident during a police chase. Officers from the Modi'in Illit station received a report of a stolen vehicle traveling on Highway 446. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, they observed it driving recklessly and against traffic, endangering other road users. During the pursuit, a police car swerved and collided with the side of a truck carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), causing a gas leak from the tank. Two police officers sustained minor injuries and were treated medically. Firefighters and rescue teams are currently managing the gas leak at the scene alongside the Modi'in Illit police from the Shomron district. Due to the incident, Highway 446 remains closed between Hashmonaim Crossing and Nili Square, and drivers are advised to use alternative routes.
