Police Chase of Stolen Vehicle Ends in Serious Crash and Hazardous Gas Leak on Road 446

A police pursuit of a stolen vehicle on Road 446 near Modi'in Illit ended in a severe accident and a hazardous gas leak on Thursday morning. The chase began after police received a report of a stolen car driving erratically and against traffic on Road 446. During the attempt to stop the vehicle, a police car rammed the stolen car, causing the police vehicle to veer off and collide forcefully with a gas truck parked nearby.

The collision caused a significant leak of liquefied petroleum gas from the truck, prompting authorities to close Road 446 between Hashmonaim Crossing and Nili Square in both directions. Firefighters from the Benjamin Regional Station are currently working to stop the gas leak and prevent any fire hazards. Two police officers involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police have urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternative routes to allow emergency teams to manage the scene and reopen the road as soon as possible. The incident is being treated as a complex security and criminal event due to the stolen vehicle and the dangerous materials involved.
