Negotiations Between Tamir Blatt and Hapoel Tel Aviv Pause Amid Contract Disputes
Hapoel Tel Aviv is preparing for the upcoming basketball season with a focus on strengthening their guard positions. After signing Tomas Satoransky, the club has been negotiating with point guard Tamir Blatt, who has shown inclination to join the team. Blatt has already agreed on contract terms reportedly worth $1.6 million for one season, including several hundred thousand dollars in shares, but has yet to formally respond to the club.
Despite initial agreement, internal disagreements within Hapoel Tel Aviv regarding Blatt's role have stalled the deal. The club clarified to Blatt that he would not be part of the EuroLeague rotation initially, as he would rank fourth among the team's point guards behind Vasily Micic, Tomas Satoransky, and an additional foreign point guard expected to join. Club representative Ofer Yanai has encouraged Blatt by promising playing time and EuroLeague opportunities, even suggesting a long-term contract with a loan arrangement as an alternative.
Blatt, who recently ended his contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv, has been in contact with some Hapoel players but has not yet spoken with coach Dimitris Itoudis. He remains active in the international market and is being considered by European teams. Yanai set a deadline for Blatt's response, which passed without an answer, leading the club to postpone further negotiations until after the Jewish fast day of Tisha B'Av, about a week later. The situation currently rests with Blatt, who appears inclined to accept the offer despite the delay.
