Negotiations Between Tamir Blatt and Hapoel Tel Aviv Pause Amid Contract Disputes
Hapoel Tel Aviv is preparing for the upcoming season with a focus on strengthening its guard positions. After signing Tomas Satoransky, the club has been negotiating with point guard Tamir Blatt, who has shown inclination to accept the offer but has yet to provide a final response. Blatt has communicated with some team players but has not yet spoken with coach Dimitris Itoudis. The club clarified that initially, Blatt is not expected to have a rotation role in the EuroLeague, despite his previous season averages of 7.1 points and 5.2 assists in 19.5 minutes per game.
Ofer Yanai, managing the negotiations, told Blatt that he would be a key player in the Israeli league with opportunities to compete for minutes in the EuroLeague. However, Hapoel Tel Aviv's backcourt is crowded, making it challenging for Blatt to secure significant playing time early in the season, as he would rank fourth among point guards behind Vasily Micic, Tomas Satoransky, and an additional foreign point guard to be signed.
Blatt agreed to a one-year contract worth $1.6 million, including several hundred thousand dollars in shares, as revealed for the first time. Despite this, internal disagreements within Hapoel Tel Aviv about his role stalled the deal. The club now appears convinced that Blatt is the best alternative to Mader. Yanai also discussed the possibility of signing Blatt to a long-term contract with a loan arrangement.
Blatt was given a deadline until the evening of July 15 to respond but did not meet it. Yanai indicated that if Blatt does not reply, talks could only resume after Tisha B'Av, about a week later. Blatt remains active in the international market and is being considered by European teams. Currently, the decision rests with Blatt, who seems inclined to accept the offer from Hapoel Tel Aviv.
