French President Macron Honors UK PM Starmer with Legion of Honor Before Departure

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to resign in the coming weeks after losing the confidence of his Labour Party. On Monday, Starmer received France's highest national honor, the Legion of Honor, from President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. This prestigious award recognized Starmer's contributions to European security following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Starmer worked closely with Macron throughout the Ukraine conflict, including helping to establish the coalition known as the Ready Group, which supports Ukraine. He is only the second British Prime Minister after Winston Churchill to receive this top French decoration. The award ceremony took place after Starmer attended his final meeting of the coalition.

The following day, Starmer participated in Bastille Day celebrations, where British armed forces marched alongside French troops for the first time in over 20 years. Macron praised Starmer for his leadership, personal commitment to his country, and dedication to European security and Franco-British relations. Starmer is expected to step down on July 20.
