UK's Outgoing PM Starmer Praises Nation's Strength as Breraham Prepares to Take Office

Andy Breraham is set to become the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom today, succeeding outgoing PM Keir Starmer, who resigned last month after nearly two years in office. Starmer delivered a farewell speech outside 10 Downing Street, highlighting his achievements in revitalizing the Labour Party from historic defeat to a sweeping victory. He stated, "I leave Britain stronger and fairer than it was two years ago," emphasizing improvements in national security and the country's international reputation.

Starmer also addressed internal and external threats, warning against societal division and urging citizens to unite under a common banner. Last week, the Labour Party conference officially confirmed Breraham as the new party leader after he secured backing from 322 Labour MPs, positioning him as Starmer's successor.

In a prior interview, Breraham outlined his approach to UK-Israel relations, indicating plans to increase pressure on the Israeli government, including potential sanctions on individuals and entities, and considering a ban on trade with illegal settlements. He acknowledged the UK's slow response to calls for a ceasefire and pledged to strengthen the UK's stance. On allegations of genocide in Gaza, Breraham refrained from a definitive statement, stressing that international courts, not politicians, should make such determinations.

Addressing concerns within the British Jewish community amid rising antisemitism, Breraham condemned the Hamas attacks on October 7 and affirmed his commitment to a balanced and fair approach, stating, "There is no contradiction between zero tolerance for antisemitism and demanding accountability from Netanyahu's government."
