Israeli Health Ministry Warns Against Consuming Salmonella-Contaminated Algimal Tahini Products
The Israeli Ministry of Health issued a public warning on Tuesday against consuming tahini products from the brand Algimal (The Camel) after routine food inspections detected Salmonella bacteria in two of the company's products. Further investigation revealed that all Algimal products were imported into Israel illegally, lacking the required approvals. The ministry emphasized that the production conditions and safety standards of these products are unknown and unregulated, raising serious concerns about their safety.
The specific products flagged are white tahini made from premium sesame seeds, available in 1-kilogram packages produced in March 2026 with an expiration date of March 2027, and 500-gram packages produced in April 2026 with an expiration date of April 2027. The Ministry of Health strongly advises the public to avoid consuming these items.
Salmonella infection can cause symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, with severe complications possible in rare cases. The risk is particularly high for young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
