Israeli Border Police Arrest Two Suspects with Loaded Gun Near Maayan Zvi
On July 1, 2026, Israeli Border Police fighters from the Coastal District thwarted a serious criminal incident by arresting two suspects near the fish ponds at Kibbutz Maayan Zvi in northern Israel. The suspects, residents of Yokneam and Ashkelon, were stopped for a routine check but fled in a vehicle, prompting a high-speed chase that ended when their car got stuck in a dead-end area. One suspect attempted to escape on foot but was captured after a determined foot pursuit.
During the arrest and search, officers discovered a loaded Glock pistol with a bullet in the chamber on one suspect, along with three fully loaded magazines and gloves. Additional incriminating items found included tear gas canisters, a folding baton, a glass-breaking device, a sharp knife wrapped in paper, suspected dangerous drugs, face coverings, a human-like mask, wooden sticks, and various burglary tools inside the vehicle.
The presence of a loaded firearm ready to fire indicated the suspects' alleged intent to carry out violent criminal activity or an armed robbery imminently. Following their arrest, the two men were taken for intensive interrogation at the Zikhron Yaakov police station. The investigation, conducted in cooperation with the Haifa District Prosecutor's Office, gathered substantial evidence against them.
This morning, the prosecution filed a formal indictment declaration in court, signaling plans to press serious charges soon and requesting their detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings. Authorities emphasized that the arrests prevented a potential severe threat to public safety. Police footage released shows the dramatic moments of the chase, arrest, and the safe unloading of the weapon by officers on site.
