Beloved Afula Educator Rabbi Mordechai David Stieglitz Passes Suddenly, Community Rallies to Support Family

Rabbi Mordechai David Stieglitz, a cherished teacher at the Derech Emet Talmud Torah in Afula, passed away suddenly on the Sabbath night of Parshat Pinchas. Known for dedicating over a decade to educating Israeli children, Rabbi Stieglitz was deeply respected in the communities of Givat HaMoreh, Afula, and Afula Illit. Rabbi Avraham Halevi Lifshitz, rabbi and head of the rabbinical court in Kfar Gid'on and the Jezreel Valley, described him as "the pride of the parents" and a distinguished spiritual guide whose reverence preceded his wisdom.

A native and prominent member of Kfar Gid'on, Rabbi Stieglitz was the son of the late Yosef Neta Stieglitz, a trusted community official. From a young age, he was known for his integrity and leadership, heading the Bein Hazmanim yeshiva, organizing Torah activities, and serving as a prayer leader during the High Holidays. Colleagues recall his lifelong devotion to Torah study, halachic precision, and loyalty to his mentors. Rabbi Lifshitz praised his exemplary reputation and the lasting impact he left on his many students.

Rabbi Stieglitz is survived by nine children, only one of whom had married. The family now faces severe hardship, having lost their father, provider, and pillar. In response, the Afula community quickly organized an internal fundraising campaign, with local rabbis urging families to commit to monthly support. Additionally, a public fund was established through "Kupat Ha'Ir" (Fund Number 5670) to enable broader assistance.

Rabbi Lifshitz emphasized the critical nature of this aid, calling it a "real salvation" and a significant mitzvah to contribute generously. He concluded his letter with blessings for donors, invoking kindness, salvation, mercy, and prosperity for them and their descendants. The community continues to appeal for urgent support to help the family navigate this difficult period.
