Volunteer Thwarts Theft at Kosher Town Supermarket in Crown Heights

A volunteer from the Shomrim organization in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, spotted a thief in the act at the popular Kosher Town supermarket on Albany and Rutland streets last Sunday. The volunteer observed the suspect stuffing items into his pockets and a bag with the intent to leave without paying. Without confronting him inside the store, the volunteer documented the theft and alerted other Shomrim members via radio as the suspect exited.

Another volunteer then discreetly followed the suspect while a call was placed to the NYPD's 71st precinct with a full description and escape route. Thanks to the swift coordination between the Shomrim volunteers and local police, officers apprehended the suspect just a few blocks from the scene. The man was handcuffed on the sidewalk and taken to the precinct for processing.

The NYPD classified the arrest as a "1 UNDER," indicating full custody of the suspect. The Shomrim organization emphasized the importance of community vigilance and urged residents and business owners to report any suspicious activity immediately to their 24-hour hotline. The suspect now faces legal consequences for the attempted theft in this tightly knit Chabad Hasidic neighborhood.
