DP World Plans New Port in UAE to Bypass Strategic Strait of Hormuz

Dubai-based global logistics and shipping giant DP World is planning to build a new port and container terminal on the eastern coast of the United Arab Emirates. The project aims to reduce Dubai's reliance on its flagship Jebel Ali port and provide an alternative route that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint. According to the Financial Times, DP World is in negotiations to develop a fully multifunctional new port in the Fujairah coastal area, along with a new terminal at the existing port in the emirate. This strategic move is intended to enhance the UAE's shipping capabilities and secure trade routes away from the vulnerable Hormuz passage.
