Chaim LeYeled Holds Annual Summer Healing Camp in Austria's Alpine Mountains
The nonprofit organization Chaim LeYeled will host its annual summer healing camp this year in the pristine Alpine mountains of Austria. The camp will take place in a luxury hotel located in one of Austria's highest and quietest regions, chosen specifically for its unique climate that benefits respiratory patients. The Alpine air is free from industrial pollution, smoke, and allergens such as dust mites, with low humidity and cool temperatures creating ideal conditions for lung health. The high barometric pressure at these altitudes naturally stimulates red blood cell production, improving cardiovascular endurance.
Participants will engage in daily supervised walks on peaceful trails surrounding the hotel, integral to their rehabilitation and lung capacity expansion. Nutrition is a key component of the camp's success, with a gourmet, high-calorie, nutritious kosher menu prepared from carefully selected ingredients imported from Israel and abroad. This diet addresses common digestive and weight maintenance challenges faced by chronic respiratory patients.
In addition to medical and dietary programs, the camp offers social activities, religious events, and tailored excursions to scenic local sites, providing patients a respite from their usual treatment routines. Rabbi Skler, chairman of Chaim LeYeled, highlighted the dramatic health improvements seen annually, noting that patients who initially struggle to walk half an hour often leave able to walk three to four hours continuously. He described these results as "a clear miracle."
The camp also fosters strong social bonds among participants, enabling them to share coping strategies and gain emotional strength that supports them long after returning home. Rabbi Skler emphasized that relocating the camp to the Austrian peaks ensures participants receive the best possible environment, nutrition, and uplifting experiences to sustain their recovery journey.
