Chabad Young Emissaries Celebrate Unique Summer Camp Strengthening Their Mission
The special summer camp for hundreds of children from Chabad-Lubavitch emissary families recently concluded with great success. Known as "young emissaries," these children, often living far from established communities, gathered to experience a vibrant summer camp designed to connect them with their peers and deepen their commitment to Chabad outreach. This year, over 350 children participated alongside about 100 staff members, some traveling internationally to attend.
The camp, organized annually by the Chabad Youth Organization and significantly enhanced in recent years under the leadership of Rabbi Yaakov Kanievsky and his team, offers a comprehensive program combining spiritual learning and practical tools for future emissaries. Most staff come from Tomchei Temimim yeshivas across Israel. The 2023 theme, "And He Stands Over Them," was inspired by a 1953 discourse from the Lubavitcher Rebbe, emphasizing the emissaries' ability to transcend natural limitations through the Rebbe's empowering presence.
Campers studied a specially prepared booklet exploring the biblical story of Abraham's encounter with angels, symbolizing how emissaries draw strength beyond their personal capacities. The camp's Shabbat focused on the concept of emissary and mission, teaching that every Jew acts as an emissary wherever they are. The curriculum also addressed halachic challenges emissaries might face, such as conducting lotteries on Shabbat or fulfilling commandments via remote means.
The camp's highlight was a prestigious banquet held at the luxurious HaPansaim hall, attended by Chabad Youth leadership. During the event, three children were awarded 1,000 shekel grants each for original community outreach projects they proposed. Following the boys' camp, a parallel camp for over 350 girls from emissary families commenced, featuring a similar program.
Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Aharonov, chairman of the Chabad Youth Organization, expressed gratitude for the camp's success and its role in preparing young emissaries to continue their mission, ultimately hastening the arrival of the righteous Messiah.
