Illegal Resident Indicted for Peeping into Women's Restroom at Tel Aviv Beach Restaurant

The Israeli prosecution has filed charges against Sharaf Abu Diya, an illegal resident from the West Bank, for allegedly entering the women's restroom at a restaurant on Tel Aviv's Bogroshov Beach and peeping at a woman inside. The incident reportedly occurred at night when Abu Diya entered the women's restroom, looked into a stall where a woman was present, and smiled at her, prompting her to alert the police. Officers arrived promptly and arrested Abu Diya, who was found to be residing in Israel illegally.

During interrogation, Abu Diya claimed he entered the women's restroom by mistake and had no intention to harm or harass the woman. However, the police stated that the complainant reported the suspect not only opened the door but also pushed his head toward the restroom stall. A police special unit officer was present and witnessed part of the incident.

Abu Diya's defense attorney argued that his client was intoxicated, confused the men's and women's restrooms, and left immediately upon realizing the error without contacting or touching the complainant. Abu Diya himself told the court, "I came by mistake. I have never done this in my life."

Despite the defense, the prosecution decided to proceed with the indictment and requested that Abu Diya remain in custody until the conclusion of the legal proceedings, citing concerns about public safety and grounds for continued detention.
