Apple Prepares Major Upgrade for Apple Pencil Ahead of 2027 iPad Pro Refresh
Apple is developing two new Apple Pencil models intended to replace the current versions and launch alongside updated iPad Pro models in the first half of 2027. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the new pencils carry internal code names B582 and B632, set to succeed the USB-C Apple Pencil introduced in 2023 and the Apple Pencil Pro launched in 2024, respectively.
While specific features of the new Apple Pencils have not been disclosed, Apple is reportedly redesigning them to comply with new European Union regulations that require batteries to be easily replaceable. This suggests a significant internal redesign, moving away from the current glued and difficult-to-repair construction.
Currently, Apple offers three different Apple Pencil models, each with distinct prices, features, and iPad compatibility, making the choice complex for consumers. Although the upcoming refresh will not consolidate the product line, it indicates Apple is not yet ready to unify the Apple Pencil lineup. The new models are expected to debut alongside the refreshed iPad Pro devices in early 2027.
