Apple Plans Foldable iPhone Ultra and New Devices for 2024-2027 Launches
Apple is set to unveil its new iPhone series next month, with the tech world buzzing over anticipated innovations. The upcoming lineup, expected to include the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and a new foldable model dubbed iPhone Ultra, marks Apple's entry into the foldable smartphone market. Reports suggest the iPhone Ultra will feature a 7.7-inch internal foldable display, a 5.3-inch external screen, dual rear cameras, a front camera, and Touch ID integrated into the power button, omitting Face ID. Its starting price is estimated around $2,000.
In addition to the foldable phone, Apple plans to launch AirPods Ultra with infrared cameras and LED indicators to enhance Siri's capabilities, likely revealed in September. Early 2027 may also see the release of MacBook Ultra, a thinner laptop with an OLED touchscreen, powered by new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
The iPhone 18 Pro models will retain familiar screen sizes but introduce LTPO+ display technology for better battery efficiency. Powered by the advanced A20 Pro chip built on a 2-nanometer process, these devices promise 15% better performance and 30% lower power consumption. Camera upgrades include a variable aperture on the main Fusion lens and a pressure-sensitive camera control button. The Pro Max model is expected to have a battery capacity increase of about 10%, reaching approximately 5,200 mAh.
Design changes are subtle, with a slightly thicker and heavier Pro Max to accommodate the larger battery and components. The notch at the top of the screen is expected to shrink by about 35%, increasing usable screen space to nearly 98%. A new cherry color will debut for the Pro models.
Prices are anticipated to rise by up to $300 compared to previous generations, reflecting global component shortages and inflation. Apple aims to balance price hikes by adjusting storage options. Competitors like Samsung with its Galaxy S26 Ultra and Google’s Pixel Pro, along with various Chinese manufacturers, present strong challenges, especially in the foldable segment where Apple’s iPhone Ultra will face established rivals.
This upcoming product cycle highlights Apple's strategic moves in hardware innovation and market competition through 2027.
